A Heavy Heart

Our country is hurting right now, and I have a heavy heart. It is difficult to know what to say in times like these, and yet I think it is important to make space for the gravity of the moment and to not gloss over it.

Today, I would like to take a moment of silence for George Floyd–and for all of those black lives lost to systemic racism. I would like to acknowledge the pain that so many people–especially people of color–feel right now, as evidenced by the protests and demonstrations around the country.

Since I don’t have the words right now, I offer you this thoughtful video from Trevor Noah, who reflects on what black people in America are experiencing at this time. Regardless of your political views or personal philosophies, I invite you to watch and listen with an open heart and mind.

While of course all lives matter, in this particular moment in history we must be loud and clear that #blacklivesmatter too–because apparently we as a society just don’t get it yet.
