Bonelli Park R11 Walkway Closure
When the Covid-19 closures began back in March 2020, the County of Los Angeles required Bonelli Bluffs RV Park to close as well. This led to a temporary closure of what is known as the R11 Walkway, which allowed members of the public to complete an uninterrupted loop around Puddingstone Lake at Bonelli Park. Since March, that temporary closure became permanent, upsetting hundreds of local residents and users of the path. In this episode, I speak with Crystal DeMott, a San Dimas resident who reached out to Bonelli Bluffs and the County. Listen to this episode to learn how she used her voice and how the necessary stakeholders are now working toward a resolution to benefit all parties involved.

Than you Isabel, this was an interesting Podcast. I have used this walkway, about a million times and i never really thought about how the publics traffic through the park was concerning to the RV park. Obviously being a person that follows the rules, i never think that there are those that are disrespectful, so i get why these issues are being addressed. Thank you Crystal DeMott for being a guest on this podcast AND for all your efforts and interests with the closure and environmental questions that have risen from the closure. Its great that the City and County are working on an alternate trail.

We’ve been going here (and eating at Norm’s) as a family for decades. We haven’t been out due to COVID-19 but we’ll go check this out this weekend. I’d like to see more pictures. We hike, run, and bike through this area. It’s a great place when your kids are small, safe spot to teach new bike learners. This is similar to beach homeowners who try to gate access to the public beach, Bonelli Bluffs RV Park must provide access to public land. This has been held up repeatedly in court.

Thanks for your comments, Shawn. Yes, I agree–this is a great spot for families to trek together. It’s a very nice family-friendly walk that we have taken our little ones on. Luckily, the access has been restored for now, with plans for a more permanent path in the near future. Hooray for community activism!
